Elastic Euler Buckling Equation

The critical load \( P_{cr} \) at which buckling occurs is given by the Euler buckling formula:

\[ P_{cr} = \frac{\pi^2 EI}{(KL)^2} \]

Where:

  • \( P_{cr} \) = Critical load at which buckling occurs
  • \( \pi^2 \) = Mathematical constant (approximately 9.8696)
  • \( E \) = Young’s modulus of the material
  • \( I \) = Moment of inertia of the cross-section
  • \( K \) = Effective length factor
  • \( L \) = Actual length of the column
